PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said no to calls to privatise the national carrier Malaysia Airlines.

Selling MAS is not the only medicine to cure MAS AIRLINE problem!

He dismissed the privatisation proposal as efforts to turn the airline around had started and begin to show promising results.

"Although MAS has suffered losses, there are recovery plan is in place which is seeing results and the trend of losses has managed to be reduced," he said at the Ministry of Finance Hari Raya open house today.

Najib added efforts to turn the airline around would need time and the government would monitor its progress closely. However, the prime minister expressed his hope that the airline would begin to show healthier results soon.

The national carrier, he said, was already a public listed company, which is being run in accordance to good management practices.

On the rampant shooting cases, Najib said the police were going all out to check the matter and that the government kept a close watch on the matter at hand.

The prime minister added that there was no plan to introduce preventive laws for now and the government was in the midst of intensive discussion to find a balance between fighting crime effectively, upholding public interest and human rights.

On politics, Najib, who is also Umno president, said he hoped the party would be led by both experienced and fresh talented leaders. He was commenting on decisions of some to step down to make way for fresh faces in the upcoming party election.
